Steve Bartylla

Steve Bartylla got interested in trapping when he was 10 years old. He credits his trapping experience with teaching him how important it is to learn everything you can about your prey. He harvested his first deer with a bow at the age of 12. Steve has been a student of the whitetail deer for 22 years. He is constantly striving to learn more about them and always willing to share his vast knowledge of them with others. ...................... Robert Hoague

Hello, Steve Bartylla here. The hunter's success is tied to his knowledge of his prey.  Growing up in the outdoors, I began trapping at the age of ten. I also took up bowhunting that year and harvested my first whitetail deer at the age of twelve.

Trapping showed me the benefits of correctly interpreting sign and knowing as much as possible about my prey. I have been applying that trapping experience successfully to bowhunting for whitetails for the last 22 years.

My pursuit for knowledge lead me to conduct many of my own field tests and research projects aimed at increasing my knowledge of whitetail deer. Along with this, I have studied the works of many of the top whitetail research biologists.

Steve Bartylla is the president and founder of Northwoods Whitetail Adventures whose goal is to produce the highest quality educational bow hunting videos on the market today. Along with producing videos, Steve writes a regular column for Bowhunting Net: Becoming A Student Of Whitetail Deer. Steve writes for numerous regional and national publications including Bow & Arrow Hunting, Deer & Deer Hunting, North American WHITETAIL. He also works as a habitat improvement consultant and serves on the Pro Staff’s of Scent-Lok, Wildlife Research Centers, Antler King, River’s Edge Hunting Products and Trail Master.
